Birmingham Audi

Earlier this year, Karl and I went along to Birmingham Audi to look at new A4s – as he said we were “only looking”… but somehow a few hours later we, well, Karl, was signing on the dotted line for, yes, you guessed it, another A4 Sport! Whilst chatting to the salesperson I jokingly said it would be nice to bring some older Audis to the showroom and somehow it all snowballed from there… a few days later I spoke with Gina Biswas and we arranged a meeting, at which we were amazed to hear them offering to clear the whole of the second floor for the Club display!
Woodvale Air and Auto Show

Woodvale was once again an excellent show with so much to see and do that it was hard to squeeze it into one day. The only downside was that once again people promised to attend (even paid their £5) and then did not turn up on the day. It would be fine if they at least let me know beforehand! If this keeps happening, I just might have to start “naming and shaming”…
Goodwood Festival of Speed

Malcolm Gulliver and I went to this year’s Festival – partly because Audi was title sponsor but also because Audi was using the Festival to celebrate its 100th anniversary and had brought cars representing all periods of Audi’s illustrious competition history. Audi’s central feature art installation, a 35 metre high automotive ‘monument’ simply called ‘Progress’, was truly breathtaking and must be one of the most ambitious and stunning sculptures ever constructed for Lord March’s unique and world leading annual Festival.
Elvetham Heath

As Fleet is just a half hour’s drive from Bracknell, I didn’t have to get up too early – a bonus as for most shows we have to be up about 6am! So with Hayley off gallivanting, I set off on my own at 8.30am, to be met on my arrival at the show by Olive Jones and Alan Knight, and to be joined later by John Scott, who’d had his own personal tour of the Fleet area, the signage for the show being far from good)!
Club Audi Treasure Hunt

Graham had chosen the Peak District for this year’s Treasure Hunt and devised a route of approximately 80 miles which took us through some truly beautiful scenery. As always with events of this nature much of the route used B and other lesser roads but Graham also had us going down the track of the, now sadly defunct, light railway which ran from Hulme End to Waterhouses. He did, however, draw the line at sending us down cart tracks.
White Rose Classic Car Show

Just back from the May Day Classic Car Show at the White Rose Shopping Centre, Leeds. And I’m pleased to say that I’ve caught the sun a little! Superb day, over 120 classic cars, all eras, all makes. Thousands of curious shoppers, and a few well-informed visitors make for a very unusual but busy event. We represented the Club with three Series 2 Coupés: Steve Robinson’s handsome and slightly modified Coupé GT, Jon Cooper’s stunning Coupé quattro, with my Ur quattro in the middle. We had a huge amount of visitors to our little display, including a possible future member who’s searching for a Coupé – Jon gave him some info before he could disappear! And if we had a pound for every “Ashes to Ashes” or “Fire up the quattro!” I’d be well on my way to a new intercooler, or bathroom something or other!
SIMON HOLROYD
Club Audi Track Day - Curborough

For the second year running we held our annual track day in mid-April. However, unlike last year when it was warm and sunny, the weather turned out to be cold and windy, although we must be grateful it remained dry! When we made the booking, we were told that there would be no morning activity that day, but on arrival we were greeted by a very serious cycling event which was not due to finish until 1pm – our allotted time being from 1.30-5.30! However, undeterred, we set about filling out the relevant paperwork while Malc Robinson did the scrutineering – no orange sticker on the windscreen meant no track access. Following scrutineering each car had to pass the noise check meter of our friendly MSA official Steve.
This event must rate as one of the most enjoyable VW/Audi/Porsche shows on the calendar. It has all the right ingredients – beautiful setting, friendly organisation, usually fine weather, a good variety of trader and a superb display of cars. Our display consisted of Jeff and Cherie Barker-Jones’s A3 2..0 TDI S-line, and our Chairman’s 80 2.0E Avant.
